Welcome to the SPY Competitive Swim Team ! 

Welcome to SPY, the Springfield Family YMCA Swimteam! We are the premier year-round swimming program in Springfield and it's surrounding communities. Myself and my staff are dedicated to teaching perfect stroke technique to all of our swimmers. Perfect technique is the main key to successful swimming! This will be the start of my 4th season as the SPY Head Coach after both swimming and coaching with SPY in the 70's and 80's. My goal is to take the SPY program to a whole new level of excellence in competitive swimming, not only locally but on the national level as well! We will be using the latest in techniques, drills, and stroke analysis to assist our swimmers in stroke development. Goal setting and enjoyment of the sport will be highly stressed throughout the year.

In my first 3 years our SPY program has grown in many ways and had great success on the local, state, and National levels. The main accomplishments over the past 3 years include, our first Olympic Trials Qualifier, first world ranked swimmer, first female Y National Champion and Y National Record holder; our first USA Swimming National Team member; numerous Ohio High School State Champions and State Record holders; our best finishes in SPY history at Y Nationals, just to name a few of our accomplishments. There will be many more to come in the future!

Our program feeds both local high school programs and a number of high schools away from our area. We intend to make our high school swimmers the absolute best in the area and then the best in the state! Our age-group program is being lead by two fine coaches in both Mickey McNeil and John Bishop, both have come up through the SPY program as both swimmers and coaches. They have done a great job in the past, so I will be assisting them to make their part of our program even better! We are striving to develop the base of our program, so to feed our senior program for the future. 

As the head coach, I will personally be in charge of the 13 and older swimmers as well as the dryland program and video analysis. Both our dryland and video analysis programs will be new to our overall SPY program. These programs are all suppliments to the new techniques, drills and training that are currently being introduced.

I look forward to a very exciting and productive year as our program improves and expands. Myself and my staff look forward to you becoming a part of the new era at SPY!
